For the past two years, I was stuck in that exact space—waiting. My career in the film industry had been my entire world for two decades. Every choice, every plan, every bit of my identity was shaped around that world. And then, seemingly overnight, it was gone. The industry changed. The work disappeared. And I was left holding the weight of a life I had built on a foundation that was no longer solid.
I grieved. I questioned everything. And for far too long, I waited.
But here’s what I realized: no one is coming to tell us what to do next. No one is coming to rescue us.
The world is in a massive paradigm shift. The systems that once dictated our lives—career paths, industries, education, financial security—are in flux. And while that can feel terrifying, it also means one thing: we have the power to redefine everything.
We must get out of our own way.
We must stand up from the waiting room and take ownership of what comes next. We may not have chosen these circumstances, but we do get to decide how we respond. We can either cling to what once was and risk being left behind, or we can step into what’s possible and create something new.
This is survival.
